The first commercial autoflowering strain, released in the early 2000s, needed roughly nine weeks from seed to harvest. Two decades of selective breeding have compressed that figure considerably, and 45 day autoflower seeds now represent the leading edge of what is genetically achievable without sacrificing basic quality. Progress came gradually, with each generation of breeders selecting the earliest finishers from already quick parents. Further reductions are expected to be marginal, as biological limits on flower development come into play.
